Role Overview
This position sits at the core of the finance function, owning the full accounting cycle from daily transaction processing through month-end close and external reporting. You will act as the bridge between operational finance and statutory requirements, keeping the general ledger accurate, supporting audit and tax exercises, and ensuring every figure reported reflects IFRS standards. Beyond routine accounting, you will take charge of joint venture records and intercompany reconciliations, making your work essential to the company’s consolidated financial integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Run the complete monthly and yearly close process, including preparing journals, accruals, provisions, and detailed balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage end-to-end accounting for inventory, fixed assets, payables, receivables, and intercompany transactions across multiple entities.
- Own the financial records for joint ventures, processing transactions, performing reconciliations, and booking necessary adjustments on a recurring basis.
- Build and maintain reporting schedules that feed directly into management accounts and statutory financial statements.
- Coordinate with external and tax auditors by preparing supporting documentation, responding to queries, and resolving open items in a timely manner.
- Apply IFRS to daily accounting decisions and flag any policy gaps or control weaknesses that could affect reporting accuracy.
- Compute and report Kenyan taxes—including VAT, withholding tax, and corporate income tax—while supporting transfer pricing documentation and related-party transactions.
- Investigate and eliminate reconciling differences, recommend control improvements, and drive process efficiencies within the finance team.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Professional certification is mandatory: CPA(K), ACCA, ACA, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- A minimum of 3–5 years working within a Big Four firm (Deloitte, PwC, EY, or KPMG). This is a strict, non-negotiable requirement—candidates without this background will not be considered.
- At least 5 years of total relevant accounting experience, ideally gained in a multinational, industrial, manufacturing, energy, agribusiness, or Export Processing Zone (EPZ) environment.
- Demonstrated, practical knowledge of IFRS, financial reporting, internal controls, and account reconciliations.
- Proven experience supporting statutory audits, tax audits, and periodic financial reporting cycles.
- Hands-on familiarity with Kenya tax legislation covering VAT, withholding tax, and corporate income tax.
- Strong working knowledge of ERP systems, with SAP experience preferred.
