Job Description

Role Overview

This role places you at the centre of the company's digital backbone, where you will design and build the software that keeps cargo and freight moving across East Africa. Based in either Nairobi or Mombasa, you will take systems from first idea to live operation: gathering requirements, writing clean backend logic and user interfaces, connecting existing tools through APIs, and keeping applications reliable after launch. Beyond coding, you will act as the technical bridge between departments, training colleagues and ensuring every platform supports shipping, warehousing, and customer-facing logistics activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the complete software lifecycle for internal logistics applications, from requirement workshops and system design through coding, testing, and production rollout.
  • Build responsive front-end interfaces and robust backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Apache, keeping performance and user experience in focus.
  • Design, implement, and maintain RESTful APIs and middleware to connect ERP, tracking, and other operational systems, reducing silos between departments.
  • Translate business problems from non-technical stakeholders into clear technical specifications, architecture diagrams, and practical acceptance criteria.
  • Review code contributed by teammates, enforce version control discipline, and document system architecture and API usage so future developers can work efficiently.
  • Run structured end-user training sessions that help operations, finance, and customer-service teams adopt new digital tools with confidence.
  • Monitor application health, resolve incidents and bugs through root-cause analysis, and apply security patches, access controls, and data-protection measures to prevent unauthorised access.
  • Support the visual side of internal tools by preparing simple UI mockups and training collateral using Canva or Adobe tools, while keeping branding consistent across digital surfaces.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a closely related quantitative discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional software development experience, with strong, hands-on proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
  • Experience configuring and managing Apache web servers and deploying Java-based applications in a production environment.
  • Solid command of at least one additional programming language such as Python, C#, or JavaScript, along with familiarity with modern web frameworks.
  • Practical ability to design and optimise relational databases using SQL, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Full-time availability to work from either Nairobi or Mombasa, Kenya.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerisation, microservices, and CI/CD pipelines is a plus.
  • Understanding of secure software development practices, OWASP guidelines, and basic cybersecurity protocols is highly valued.
  • Relevant certifications such as Oracle Certified Java Programmer, AWS Certified Developer, or Scrum Master will strengthen your application.

What We Offer / Why Join

You will receive a gross monthly salary of Kshs. 80,000 alongside a benefits package, giving you stable, competitive compensation for your skills. More importantly, this is a chance to take direct ownership of platforms that power a real logistics network across East Africa, so the systems you build will have immediate, visible impact on how freight and supply chain operations run every day. You will also have the flexibility to work from Nairobi or Mombasa, two of Kenya's busiest commercial centres, while growing your expertise across full-stack development, integration, security, and cloud technologies in a single, hands-on role.
