Role Overview
This position is responsible for directing field merchandising and pre‑sales operations within a defined territory, making sure that products are well‑positioned, fully stocked, and consistently visible to shoppers. The role serves as the primary bridge between distributor sales leadership and territory management, translating strategic retail plans into concrete in‑store action. Day‑to‑day, the focus is on leading a team of merchandisers and van sales representatives, conducting store visits, coaching on execution, and ensuring that promotional efforts land successfully at the shelf.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and guide merchandisers and van sales representatives across assigned outlets, ensuring daily activities are performed effectively and per plan.
- Work closely with the Distributor Sales Manager and Territory Manager to develop, refine, and monitor merchandising schedules, route plans, and store‑visit frequencies.
- Carry out regular field visits to inspect product displays, stock levels, and brand compliance, while providing on‑the‑spot coaching and constructive feedback to the team.
- Coordinate in‑store promotional campaigns, product activations, and seasonal launches, ensuring necessary materials, samples, and inventory are available at the right time.
- Track individual and team performance against assigned sales and visibility targets, using field observations and system data to identify gaps and improvements.
- Prepare weekly and monthly performance reports for management, summarising achievements, challenges, and market intelligence gathered from retailers and outlets.
- Troubleshoot and resolve field‑level issues such as delivery delays, display obstacles, or retailer disputes, keeping operations moving without unnecessary disruption.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Sales, Marketing, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline.
- 1 to 4 years of hands‑on experience in sales, marketing, or field operations, ideally within retail, FMCG, or distribution environments.
- Demonstrated success in customer‑facing sales roles or account management is a strong plus, as is familiarity with route‑to‑market principles.
- Comfort with sales management tools, mobile reporting apps, and basic data analysis to monitor performance and track field activities.
- Self‑motivated and results‑driven, with the ability to work independently and also contribute effectively within a team.
- Strong persuasive selling skills, clear communication abilities, and sound decision‑making and problem‑solving capabilities.
