Role Overview
This position places you at the center of a busy Ruiru supermarket, where you will coordinate the day-to-day flow of the sales floor, guide the front-line team, and keep operations running smoothly from morning opening to evening close. You will split your time between being visible on the shop floor—checking displays, assisting customers, and directing staff—and handling the administrative side of retail, such as shift planning, stock oversight, and cash reconciliation. Your work directly influences the store's efficiency, customer satisfaction, and profitability, making you a key link between the store manager and the broader operational team.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the full sales floor during each shift, ensuring shelves are stocked, product labels are correct, and the store stays clean, safe, and inviting for shoppers.
- Lead the store's opening and closing routines, including verifying security systems, preparing registers, and confirming that all departments are ready for business.
- Create and manage weekly staff rosters, track attendance, and adjust coverage to match peak footfall times without leaving any section understaffed.
- Supervise cashiers and front-end staff, checking that register transactions are accurate, cash drops are handled correctly, and daily takings are balanced at the end of each shift.
- Monitor inventory levels continuously, calling for backroom replenishment before items run out, and enforcing proper stock rotation so older products sell first.
- Maintain visual merchandising standards by coordinating product arrangement, promotional displays, and aisle tidiness according to store guidelines.
- Act as the first point of contact for customer concerns, resolving complaints calmly and escalating unresolved issues to the store manager when needed.
- Perform daily checks on sales performance, prepare shift summaries, and report key figures and any operational gaps to management.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, Supply Chain, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of two years of hands-on supervisory experience in a supermarket or large-format retail setting, with practical exposure to floor leadership, inventory control, and cash management.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel for rostering, reporting, and inventory tracking, plus familiarity with point-of-sale systems.
- Strong ability to motivate and direct a team of cashiers, stock handlers, and floor assistants during busy periods without losing attention to detail.
- Customer-focused communication skills, including the ability to listen, de-escalate tense situations, and give clear instructions.
- Reliable, organized, and comfortable working flexible shifts on-site in Ruiru, including weekends or peak shopping hours as required.
- Sharp observational skills for spotting misplaced products, empty shelves, or expired stock, and the discipline to enforce store procedures consistently.
What We Offer / Why Join
- A full-time, stable supervisory role in a well-positioned retail outlet operating in a growing market.
- Monthly gross salary of Kshs. 22,000 to 25,000, based on experience and performance.
- Valuable hands-on experience managing high-volume store operations, which can serve as a foundation for further career growth in retail management.
- The chance to develop your leadership skills while working alongside a supportive store management team in a fast-paced environment.
