Job Description

Title: Supermarket Stock Controller

Employment Nature: Full-time

Industry: Retail

Monthly Salary: Kshs. 25,000

Location: Kitengela

Position Purpose

We are seeking a highly analytical and disciplined Stock Controller to join our retail team in Kitengela. This role is central to the store’s profitability, focusing on the meticulous management of inventory from the point of delivery to final sale. You will be responsible for maintaining the delicate balance between preventing stockouts of fast-moving goods and minimizing capital tied up in slow-moving items. The ideal candidate will combine strong numerical skills with the physical diligence required for regular warehouse inspections and stock takes, ensuring that system records perfectly match physical counts.

Functional Areas of Responsibility

Inventory Oversight & Reconciliation

  • Monitor real-time inventory levels across all departments, triggering timely replenishment orders to ensure consistent product availability.

  • Execute regular cycle counts and comprehensive monthly stock takes, identifying and investigating any discrepancies between system data and physical shelf counts.

  • Investigate the root causes of stock variances, such as shrinkage, damages, or processing errors, and implement strict corrective measures.

  • Oversee the accurate entry of all inventory movements into the system, including new supplier deliveries, internal transfers, and adjustments for damages.

Logistics & Quality Control

  • Verify the quantity and quality of goods received from suppliers against purchase orders and delivery notes.

  • Enforce strict stock rotation practices, specifically FIFO (First-In, First-Out) and FEFO (First-Expired, First-Out), to eliminate losses due to expired products.

  • Optimize backroom and floor storage to prevent product damage and ensure easy retrieval during restocking.

  • Coordinate with the procurement team to adjust reorder levels based on seasonal demand patterns and historical sales data.

Reporting & Loss Prevention

  • Prepare detailed daily and weekly reports on stock status, highlighting fast-moving, slow-moving, and non-moving items.

  • Work alongside the security and sales teams to identify pilferage risks and strengthen internal controls to prevent loss.

  • Ensure all pricing changes, promotional discounts, and barcode updates are accurately reflected in the system and on shelf labels.

  • Maintain an organized digital and physical archive of all stock movements, returns, and write-offs for audit readiness.

Applicant Profile

Professional Qualifications

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Stock Controller specifically within a high-volume supermarket setting.

  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Excel.

Core Competencies

  • Numerical Mastery: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex stock data.

  • Integrity: A high degree of accountability and an uncompromising approach to loss prevention.

  • Organization: Ability to manage multiple categories of goods simultaneously while maintaining strict order in the warehouse.

  • Detail Orientation: Meticulous approach to recording data and identifying subtle discrepancies in stock levels.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Retail Salary: A steady monthly pay of Kshs. 25,000.

  • Professional Growth: Gain experience in a high-pressure retail environment with sophisticated inventory systems.

  • Dynamic Environment: Work within the heart of Kitengela’s fast-paced commercial hub.
