Role Overview
We are seeking a highly patient, dedicated, and skilled Speech and Fine Motor Therapist to provide personalized, home-based therapeutic support for a child along Kangundo Road, Nairobi. Your primary focus will be to deliver targeted interventions that bridge verbal and non-verbal communication development with essential physical dexterity and functional life skills. This part-time position requires a holistic, play-based approach; you will design engaging developmental exercises, monitor physiological and cognitive milestones, and equip the family with practical routines to reinforce progress daily. The role demands a registered therapist who combines clinical expertise with deep empathy, creating a safe and encouraging environment where the child can thrive.
Areas of Accountability
Speech & Communication Intervention
- Assess the child's specific speech, language, and communication needs to draft custom, progress-tracked therapy frameworks.
- Implement structured verbal and non-verbal exercises to enhance articulation, voice clarity, and vocabulary retention.
- Improve language comprehension and expressive communication skills through tailored, interactive learning prompts.
- Model and encourage functional communication techniques during organic, day-to-day household interactions.
Fine Motor & Functional Dexterity Training
- Design and execute physical coordination exercises to strengthen hand muscles, finger dexterity, and bilateral integration.
- Guide the child in mastering practical self-care and educational actions, including pencil grip development, cutting, and handwriting.
- Utilize sensory-integration techniques and age-appropriate tactile materials to build up overall hand-eye coordination.
- Assess physical progress continuously, adjusting the complexity of motor tasks to safely push the child's developmental limits.
Social & Play-Based Integration
- Design structured, highly engaging play sessions that target specific cognitive, emotional, and social-emotional milestones.
- Cultivate the child's self-confidence, emotional regulation, and personal independence through positive reinforcement strategies.
- Introduce cooperative play mechanics to build fundamental social skills, turn-taking habits, and focused attention spans.
- Ensure the primary therapy space within the home is physically safe, clean, organized, and free of unnecessary cognitive distractions.
Progress Auditing & Caregiver Alignment
- Document highly detailed clinical session logs, tracking behavioral changes, physical achievements, and communication barriers.
- Deliver transparent, regular performance updates and comprehensive progress briefings to the parents.
- Curate safe, easy-to-implement homework exercises and therapeutic routines for parents to run between official visits.
- Coordinate closely with the family unit to align external educational or medical recommendations with daily therapy targets.
