Bio Medical Program Coordinator

Role Overview

This position delivers both classroom and hands-on instruction in biomedical engineering technology to trainees who are preparing to work with medical equipment in hospitals, clinics and laboratories. The post holder carries responsibility for turning curriculum requirements into practical competence, so that learners can safely inspect, test, calibrate and repair the devices patient care depends on. Success in the role means producing graduates who meet the professional registration standards expected of biomedical engineering technologists.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and teach lectures, tutorials and demonstrations across biomedical engineering technology subjects, including electronics, instrumentation, medical equipment principles and maintenance practice.
• Facilitate practical sessions in the biomedical workshop and skills laboratory, walking learners through equipment inspection, performance testing, calibration, fault-finding and repair.
• Develop and maintain schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching aids and assessment tools that align with the institution's curriculum and the requirements of external examining bodies.
• Set, administer, mark and internally moderate continuous assessments, practical examinations and final examinations, keeping accurate and auditable learner records.
• Supervise student projects, industrial attachments and clinical rotations, providing structured feedback and mentoring throughout.
• Manage the workshop and laboratory inventory of teaching equipment, spare parts and consumables, and escalate faulty or unsafe devices for repair or condemnation.
• Enforce health, safety and infection-control standards during all training activities, including the safe handling and disposal of electronic waste and hazardous components.
• Contribute to departmental meetings, curriculum review and quality assurance activities, and keep current with emerging medical device technologies and maintenance practice.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Higher Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology from a recognized institution.
• Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology.
• Registration with the Association of Medical Engineers of Kenya (AMEK).
• A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and teaching experience.
• Demonstrated medical training skills and pedagogy, with the ability to plan instruction, assess learners and mentor trainees in a health training setting.
