Job Description

Role Overview

This role is responsible for planning, creating, and publishing content across all major social platforms to grow audience reach and deepen engagement for a mission-driven health media organisation. Day to day, you will collaborate with editorial, production, and communications teams to turn complex health stories into compelling social-first narratives, coordinate live event coverage, and use analytics to refine content strategy. Your work directly supports the organisation's goal of building an informed, engaged community around evidence-based public health communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the full social media content lifecycle: strategise, plan, write, schedule, publish, and monitor posts across Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, WhatsApp, and any emerging platforms.
  • Design and maintain a detailed content calendar that aligns with editorial priorities, audience interests, and organisational campaigns.
  • Adapt editorial articles, reports, and multimedia assets into platform-specific formats—including Reels, Shorts, Stories, Carousels, infographics, and original videos—to maximise organic reach and engagement.
  • Manage real-time social coverage of events, interviews, webinars, conferences, and breaking news, ensuring accurate and timely posting.
  • Respond to audience comments, messages, and enquiries professionally and promptly, escalating sensitive or reputational matters to the relevant internal team.
  • Monitor platform performance using analytics tools, produce regular reports on key metrics (reach, engagement, growth, referral traffic), and recommend data-driven improvements.
  • Ensure all content adheres to the organisation’s editorial standards, brand voice, and ethical guidelines, maintaining consistency across channels.
  • Collaborate with journalists, producers, designers, and the partnerships team to support cross-functional campaigns and maximise audience impact.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of hands-on social media management in a media organisation, digital publisher, NGO, or communications agency.
  • Proven track record of growing and managing multiple social media accounts simultaneously, with a deep understanding of platform-specific algorithms and audience behaviour.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and copywriting skills; ability to craft clear, engaging, and accurate captions, headlines, and metadata.
  • Proficient with social media scheduling, monitoring, and analytics tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Buffer, or similar).
  • Strong editorial judgment and ability to assess the sensitivity, accuracy, and ethical implications of content in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
  • Creativity and an eye for visual storytelling; working knowledge of Canva or Adobe Creative Suite for basic graphic design and short-form video editing is a significant advantage.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and coordinate with diverse teams.
  • Analytical mindset—comfortable interpreting data, identifying trends, and translating insights into actionable content recommendations.
  • Demonstrated passion for journalism, public health, and evidence-based communication.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is an opportunity to shape the digital voice of a respected non-profit media organisation focused on public health. You will work alongside passionate journalists and editors in a collaborative environment where your ideas directly influence how millions engage with critical health information. While specific benefits are not listed, the role offers the chance to develop expertise in social strategy within a mission-driven setting that values accuracy, creativity, and impact over clicks.
