Role Mandate
We are seeking a technically proficient Sewage Treatment Operator to manage and maintain the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) within our educational institution in Rongai. The core mission of this role is to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant treatment of wastewater. You will be responsible for the continuous monitoring of mechanical equipment, chemical dosing, and biological processes to ensure that all discharge meets stringent environmental and pollution control standards. This role requires a blend of mechanical aptitude and analytical skill, as you will be expected to interpret laboratory results and make real-time adjustments to treatment parameters.
Functional Responsibilities
Plant Operations & Process Control

Operate and monitor specialized STP equipment, including submersible pumps, blowers, clarifiers, and aeration tanks.

Manage the function of sludge digesters and chemical dosing units to maintain optimal treatment efficiency.

Conduct regular sampling at various stages of the treatment cycle to analyze water quality.

Monitor and adjust critical parameters such as pH, COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand), and TSS (Total Suspended Solids) to remain within regulatory discharge norms.
Maintenance & Chemical Management

Execute routine preventive maintenance schedules for all STP machinery to minimize downtime.

Identify equipment malfunctions and coordinate with the maintenance team for prompt repairs.

Oversee the inventory and application of treatment chemicals, including coagulants, flocculants, and disinfectants.

Optimize chemical dosing ratios to achieve cost-effectiveness without compromising the quality of the treated effluent.
Safety, Compliance & Reporting

Adhere strictly to environmental laws and guidelines as prescribed by national pollution control boards and environmental management authorities.

Maintain comprehensive daily logs of plant operations, chemical consumption, and maintenance activities.

Implement spill response protocols and emergency procedures to safeguard the institution's environment.

Produce weekly and monthly reports on plant performance, water usage optimization, and regulatory compliance.
Requirements & Competencies
Professional Qualifications

Education: Degree in Chemical Engineering, Water Engineering, or a related field.

Alternative: Diploma holders with significant, high-level hands-on experience in wastewater treatment will be considered.

Experience: 2–4 years of direct experience in STP operations.

Knowledge: Deep understanding of wastewater treatment technologies and biological/chemical treatment processes.
