Job Description

Role Overview

The QHSE Officer carries responsibility for making health, safety, quality and environmental policy real at ground level across the assigned business lines — not just on paper. Working alongside the H&S Manager, you translate corporate management system requirements into practical routines that field teams can follow, then verify through audits, inspections and data that those routines actually hold up. The role exists because SGS's reputation with clients, regulators and staff depends on consistently safe, compliant and measurable operations, and because continuous improvement only happens when someone owns the detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Uphold the highest ethical standards in line with SGS integrity programmes, and align local decisions with the company's strategic direction on quality, safety and environmental performance.
  • Implement the Health & Safety Management System day to day, monitor the local QHSE systems against annual H&S KPIs, and initiate corrective and preventive action wherever performance falls short.
  • Build and maintain the framework for an integrated management system covering standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 17025, ISO 17020, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, keeping supporting records for safety, environmental, security and sustainability arrangements accurate and current.
  • Plan and conduct internal audits and assessments, then track complaints, remedial actions and audit findings through to verified closure.
  • Operate the hazard, near-miss and incident reporting process, assist with investigations, and ensure findings feed back into revised controls, procedures and training.
  • Coordinate occupational hygiene surveys and risk assessments at every site, formalise the safety and environmental inspection programme with appropriate scheduling, and confirm legal compliance, including government-related safety and environmental requirements.
  • Deliver quality, safety and environmental training and awareness activity so that staff at all levels understand their obligations and contribute to improvement.
  • Apply measurement systems to monitor statistical control, compile the monthly Global Safety Report, liaise with country quality, safety and environmental colleagues, and travel to sites to support managers and teams throughout the assigned area.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • University degree from a recognised institution.
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate.
  • Minimum three years' experience working with quality and safety management systems.
  • Sound working knowledge of management system standards and the ability to handle and interpret multiple streams of data.
  • Proven experience planning and scheduling inspections.
  • Exposure to a testing or production environment is an added advantage.
  • People management experience is advantageous.
  • Environmental experience will strengthen your application.
