Role Overview
You will take full ownership of complex technology programs from conception through production, ensuring that large, multi-team efforts land on time and with quality. Your daily focus is on coordinating engineering, QA, platform, and business stakeholders—sequencing work, clearing dependencies, and keeping delivery momentum high across our lending, value store, and data platforms. This role matters because predictable, well-managed delivery directly enables growth capabilities while protecting platform stability and architectural coherence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end delivery of major technical programs, including platform modernisation, cloud and AI-enabled systems, and data initiatives, with clear scope, resourcing, and success criteria agreed upfront.
- Coordinate multiple engineering and platform teams to sequence interdependent work, manage cross-team dependencies, and proactively remove blockers before they stall progress.
- Maintain an honest, real-time view of delivery health, tracking risks and issues, and surface them early to leadership with a recommended resolution path.
- Partner with the Technology Delivery Director to define the target architecture for core platforms, translating it into a sequenced roadmap that balances business priorities with long-term scalability.
- Embed non-functional requirements—resilience, high availability, performance, security, observability, data quality—into every program so they are designed in from the start, not retrofitted.
- Diagnose and redesign inefficient delivery processes, such as slow handoffs, approval bottlenecks, unclear ownership, vague requirements, or poor estimation, and replace them with measurable, scalable workflows.
- Establish and run proportionate governance forums, technical reviews, and decision-making checkpoints that protect delivery speed while maintaining control.
- Mentor engineers and technical leads in planning, estimation, risk management, stakeholder communication, and Agile practices, and foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in technical program, project, or delivery management, with a proven track record of running multi-team programs in software or platform engineering environments.
- Solid engineering background, including substantial hands-on experience as a software engineer, architect, or technical lead, with deep expertise in at least one programming language and working familiarity with several others.
- Demonstrated ability to improve delivery processes, including leading teams through Agile adoption (Scrum, Kanban, or XP) and adapting practices pragmatically rather than dogmatically.
- Proficiency with delivery and collaboration tooling such as Jira and Confluence, and the ability to use data from these tools to drive real improvement in throughput, cycle time, predictability, and defect escape rate.
- Strong facilitation and influencing skills, with experience driving complex technical decisions across multiple teams and levels of seniority.
- Experience mentoring or leading others, whether formally as a manager or informally as a technical lead.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in a regulated FinTech, payments, or financial services environment.
- Experience delivering in high-volume, high-availability transactional systems.
- Experience working across multiple countries, time zones, or partner organisations.
- Proven capability to manage full product development lifecycles from prototype to release or decommissioning.
