Tutorial Fellow - Information Technology

Role Overview

This academic appointment sits where classroom teaching, curriculum design, and computing research meet. The person in this post will spend their week preparing and delivering lectures and practical sessions, guiding students and junior colleagues, and pushing forward a research agenda that includes securing funding and sharing results with the wider scholarly community. The department relies on faculty who can keep its Computer Science and Information Technology offerings current while producing work that raises its profile at national and international level.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach courses assigned by the Head of Department across the department's computing programmes.
• Design, develop, plan, and deliver modules at various levels, including entirely new courses where required.
• Deliver lectures and practical or laboratory sessions to a consistently high standard.
• Review course content and teaching materials on a regular cycle and update them as the field and student needs evolve.
• Work alongside academic colleagues on curriculum development, programme changes, and joint research activity.
• Conduct original research, prepare grant proposals, pursue and take part in consultancy engagements, and present findings at national and international conferences and similar events.
• Disseminate research outputs and mentor students and staff, offering academic and career guidance.
• Carry out any other duties assigned by supervisors or set out in the detailed job description.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology from a recognised or accredited university in the relevant field.
• At least three years of post-qualification work experience.
• Demonstrated potential for university teaching and research, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with academic colleagues.
• A genuine commitment to high-quality teaching and to fostering a positive learning environment for students.
