Role Overview
You will take full engineering ownership of commercial and industrial solar projects, guiding them from initial site surveys and feasibility reviews all the way through to final commissioning and handover. Your technical decisions will directly shape system performance, safety, and bankability, making you a key partner to both internal teams and external clients. On any given day you might be running yield simulations, redlining single-line diagrams, inspecting live installations, or advising project managers on how to resolve a design conflict under construction pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Design complete solar PV systems for on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid architectures, including string sizing, inverter selection, battery integration, and balance-of-system specifications.
- Carry out on-site assessments that capture shading conditions, roof or ground structural constraints, existing electrical infrastructure, and environmental risk factors.
- Build detailed feasibility studies and energy yield models, using real weather data and equipment performance curves to support investment-grade recommendations.
- Produce and review technical documentation such as single-line diagrams, equipment schedules, mounting layouts, and installation specifications.
- Oversee field implementation by conducting quality inspections, verifying workmanship against approved drawings, and witnessing system testing and energisation.
- Ensure every project remains compliant with local electrical codes, utility interconnection requirements, and workplace safety regulations.
- Support sales and project management teams by providing accurate technical input for proposals, responding to client questions, and helping scope customised solutions.
- Investigate performance issues and commissioning failures, then recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence across future projects.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, renewable energy, or a directly related field.
- At least five years of practical experience in solar PV system design, installation, or both, with demonstrable exposure to commercial and industrial projects.
- Strong proficiency in PVsyst for simulation and yield analysis, and in AutoCAD for detailed system drawing and layout design.
- Deep understanding of on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid system topologies, including inverters, battery storage, protection devices, and monitoring systems.
- Solid knowledge of electrical codes, grid connection rules, and safety standards for DC and AC power systems.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot design flaws, identify performance losses, and make practical site-based decisions.
- Clear communication skills for explaining engineering concepts to clients, contractors, and non-technical team members.
