Job Description

Role Overview

You will act as the primary driver of commercial banking growth for a targeted portfolio of corporate and institutional clients, translating the bank’s broader sector strategy into tangible revenue, asset, and customer outcomes. Day to day, you will combine deep client engagement with disciplined credit management — structuring deals, monitoring account performance, and coordinating with product specialists to deliver financial solutions that genuinely meet client needs. Your work directly influences the bank’s market position by expanding lending, growing fee income, and keeping portfolio risk within strict thresholds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate the sector strategy into an actionable client plan, then execute that plan through structured business development calls, deal origination, and proactive pitching of tailored banking and advisory solutions.
  • Own delivery of annual growth targets for revenue, fees, commissions, profit before tax, assets, liabilities, and customer numbers — adjusting tactics as market conditions or client circumstances shift.
  • Build a comprehensive understanding of each client’s business model, financial position, industry dynamics, and macroeconomic context, then channel those insights into relevant product teams, credit committees, and relationship plans.
  • Lead cross-selling initiatives in partnership with product management, trade finance, treasury, bancassurance, and capital markets teams to deepen the share of wallet across the client base.
  • Set and enforce pricing and margin parameters on all facilities in your portfolio, ensuring a healthy balance between balance sheet growth and income statement performance while remaining competitive in the market.
  • Personally manage and deepen relationships with key decision makers at client organisations, actively pursuing new business opportunities and maintaining long-term loyalty through consistent, high-quality service.
  • Monitor daily account activity, referrals, and facility utilisation against approved limits and terms, exercising sound discretion on account conduct and escalating issues as needed.
  • Maintain a robust risk environment by submitting well-structured credit proposals within policy guidelines, tracking non-performing loan and portfolio-at-risk metrics, and ensuring compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements, and reporting deadlines.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • University degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Banking, or a related discipline from a recognised institution.
  • At least seven years’ experience in the financial or banking sector, with a minimum of five years specifically in relationship management or client portfolio management for corporate or commercial clients.
  • Strong credit and financial analysis skills, including the ability to assess financial statements, cash flow, security structures, and industry risk.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trade products, transaction banking, and lending instruments, with the ability to structure facilities in line with credit policy.
  • Proven track record of hitting revenue targets, growing fee income, and managing a portfolio with healthy asset quality and stable client retention.
  • Commercial and entrepreneurial mindset, with strong research, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities to anticipate challenges and develop practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication, persuasion, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, including the courage to challenge business units and the status quo when required.
  • High degree of digital literacy, strong organisational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities across a complex client portfolio.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, AKIB, or a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field are desirable but not mandatory.
