Role Overview
This position sits at the heart of the Sacco’s lending operation, combining hands-on credit analysis with proactive member relationship building. You will guide loan applications from the initial conversation through approval, disbursement, and final repayment, while actively managing a portfolio to keep default rates low and member satisfaction high. Your work directly supports the Sacco’s growth by turning credit products into a reliable source of value for both the institution and its members.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and shepherd credit applications end-to-end, gathering complete documentation and driving each file through internal approval workflows without unnecessary delay.
- Review members’ financial records, cash-flow patterns, and supporting documents to form a clear picture of repayment capacity and risk exposure.
- Structure loan proposals that align with the Sacco’s credit policy and negotiated pricing, making sure every facility matches the member’s stated need.
- Monitor an assigned loan book on an ongoing basis, tracking arrears, security coverage, insurance renewals, and other conditions attached to approved facilities.
- Initiate and follow up on collections activity for overdue accounts, engaging members early and proposing practical repayment solutions where appropriate.
- Spot and act on cross-selling opportunities relevant to each member’s current situation, such as savings products, insurance covers, or additional credit lines.
- Maintain member records to a high standard, including KYC details, call logs, covenant checkpoints, and annual review schedules.
- Keep complaints and service follow-ups on track, ensuring member concerns are resolved within the Sacco’s agreed service levels and captured for future improvement.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Commerce, or a directly related discipline from a recognised university.
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience in credit administration, loan portfolio management, business development, or relationship management within a Sacco, bank, microfinance, or comparable financial services setting.
- Proven ability to evaluate credit applications, interpret financial statements, and negotiate facility terms with clients at different levels of financial sophistication.
- Sound working knowledge of prudential guidelines, anti-money laundering controls, and know-your-customer obligations relevant to Sacco lending in the regulatory context.
- Strong critical thinking and numerical skills, paired with the oral and written communication needed to explain credit decisions to members and internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated comfort working independently and within a team, including the resilience to meet lending targets while retaining attention to detail under pressure.
- Unquestionable integrity and discretion when handling sensitive member information and financial data.
