Job Description

Role Overview

This is a senior relationship management position within a large commercial banking group, focused on a specific client sector. You will own a portfolio of corporate customers, acting as the primary link between their financial needs and the bank’s full product suite. The role combines strategic business development with disciplined credit portfolio management, requiring you to meet ambitious growth targets while protecting asset quality and delivering an exceptional client experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the execution of the sector strategy by converting client insights and market intelligence into structured deals, product uptake, and measurable revenue growth across fees, commissions, and interest income.
  • Own the annual business development plan for your portfolio, pursuing new customer acquisition, deepening share of wallet, and delivering against profitability, asset, and liability targets.
  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with decision makers at client organisations, understanding their business models, industry pressures, and long-term capital and liquidity requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal partners in product management, trade finance, bancassurance, and capital markets teams to design customised financial solutions and orchestrate cross-selling efforts.
  • Monitor account conduct daily and act on referrals, ensuring all facilities remain within approved limits, correctly priced, and aligned with the bank's credit policy and margin objectives.
  • Prepare and submit high-quality credit proposals within agreed turnaround times, while managing the portfolio to keep non-performing loans and portfolio-at-risk ratios within defined thresholds.
  • Maintain rigorous governance, internal controls, and regulatory compliance across every client interaction, producing timely reports and taking corrective action when account performance deviates from expectations.
  • Champion a seamless client service culture by resolving issues quickly, proactively anticipating client needs, and using client feedback to improve retention and advocacy scores.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Banking, or a related discipline from a recognised institution.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, AKIB, or a postgraduate banking qualification are advantageous, as are sales and marketing credentials.
  • At least five years of hands-on experience in relationship management and sales within a banking or financial services environment.
  • Strong credit analysis skills and the ability to structure facilities that balance client needs with prudent risk appetite.
  • Solid understanding of trade finance, transaction banking products, and working capital solutions for corporate clients.
  • Proven experience managing a diverse client portfolio and hitting growth, profitability, and portfolio quality targets.
  • Digital fluency and strong computer literacy, including comfort working with banking systems, data analytics, and CRM tools.
  • Entrepreneurial and commercially astute thinking, with strong research, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, including the confidence to challenge decisions and push back constructively when needed.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, client-driven environment.
