Senior Lecturer - Cyber Security

Role Overview

This is a senior academic position within the university's computing and informatics faculty, focused on delivering high-quality instruction, driving research output, and expanding the university's footprint in data science and cybersecurity. Day to day, you will teach both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, mentor graduate students through their theses and dissertations, and contribute to the department's scholarly publications and funding portfolio. Your work matters because the university relies on senior lecturers to bridge academia and industry, producing graduates who can meet Kenya's growing demand for data-literate and security-conscious technology professionals.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver lectures, seminars, and practical sessions in data science, digital forensics, and cybersecurity at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Design, review, and update course curricula to reflect current industry practices, emerging threats, and new analytical methodologies.
• Supervise postgraduate students in their research projects, ensuring timely progress toward thesis submission and successful defense.
• Publish original research in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at local and international academic conferences.
• Develop and support grant proposals, industry partnerships, and collaborative research initiatives that align with the university's strategic goals.
• Assess student performance through examinations, assignments, and practical projects, while providing constructive academic guidance.
• Contribute to departmental governance, including participating in academic boards, curriculum committees, and quality assurance exercises.

Requirements & Qualifications

• An earned PhD in Data Science, Computer Security and Forensics, Digital Forensics, Cyber Security, or a closely related field from a recognized and accredited university.
• At least three years of university-level teaching experience as a Lecturer, or six years of equivalent research or industry experience in a relevant domain.
• A minimum of thirty-two publication points at the Lecturer level, with at least twenty-four of those points coming from articles in refereed scholarly journals.
• Demonstrated supervision of at least three postgraduate students to successful completion, either as sole supervisor or as part of a supervisory team.
• Registration with the relevant professional body, where applicable, and a commitment to maintaining professional and academic integrity.
