Role Overview
This is a permanent academic position for an experienced scholar who will take on advanced teaching, research, and postgraduate supervision duties within a Kenyan public university. The post holder is expected to contribute actively to the university’s research output, mentor graduate students, and participate in departmental and faculty administrative responsibilities that support the institution’s academic mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver lectures and seminars to undergraduate and postgraduate students in your area of specialisation, preparing course materials and assessments in line with university regulations.
- Design and conduct independent research that leads to publication in refereed journals, and pursue external research funding to sustain a productive research agenda.
- Supervise postgraduate students through their thesis or dissertation work, from topic selection and proposal development to final examination and completion.
- Serve on departmental, faculty, and university committees as assigned, contributing to curriculum development, quality assurance, and academic policy review.
- Present findings at academic conferences, seminars, and workshops, and represent the university in relevant scholarly and professional forums.
- Engage with professional bodies and industry stakeholders to strengthen the applied relevance of your teaching and research.
- Guide and mentor junior academic staff, sharing expertise in research methodology, publishing, and grant writing to build institutional capacity.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A PhD degree or its equivalent from an accredited and recognised university or institution, or a Master's degree in a special discipline with nine years' relevant experience.
- At least three years of teaching experience as a Lecturer or Research Fellow at Grade 12 level, or equivalent, for PhD holders.
- A minimum of thirty-two research and publication points, with at least twenty-four points from articles published in refereed journals, accumulated since appointment as Lecturer or Research Fellow.
- Supervision of at least three postgraduate students to completion, or supervision of one postgraduate student combined with attraction of three million Kenya Shillings in external research funding, since appointment at the specified grade.
- Current membership in good standing of relevant professional societies or boards, where applicable, with supporting evidence.
- Documented attendance and contribution at academic conferences, seminars, or workshops.
- An up-to-date Curriculum Vitae covering academic and professional qualifications, work experience, current salary, and full publication record.
- Completion of the official university job application form, and a Google Scholar profile updated to include all publications where applicable.
