Role Overview
This ICT Trainer position delivers practical and theoretical instruction within the University's professional and technical training programmes. The trainer prepares and leads seminars, workshops, tutorials, and hands-on laboratory sessions, assesses learner performance, and helps ensure curricula stay aligned with current industry needs. The role is central to producing competent, work-ready ICT graduates and to supporting the Institute's academic and training objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver ICT instruction through seminars, workshops, tutorials, laboratory exercises, and other assigned learning formats.
- Develop and refresh learning materials, schemes of work, and progress records that track trainee attendance, achievement, and development.
- Prepare, administer, and mark examinations, practical tasks, assignments, and continuous assessment tests using consistent and fair standards.
- Supervise practical work, guide learners through projects and troubleshooting, and provide constructive feedback or referral to student support services when needed.
- Conduct applied research that informs curriculum review and helps validate the quality and relevance of learning resources.
- Requisition, organize, and maintain ICT inventories, tools, equipment, and other teaching resources so practical sessions run safely and effectively.
- Build industry relationships that create experiential learning, training excursion, and attachment opportunities, and support trainee contests, trade fairs, and innovation projects.
- Contribute to departmental seminars, meetings, committees, and continuous professional development activities, and enter assessment results into the examination records system within required timelines.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information and Communication Technology or a related discipline from an accredited or recognized institution.
- Registration as a Trainer with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
- At least two years of teaching experience at tertiary level or three years of industry-based experience.
- Certificate from an approved Trainer of Trainers course.
- A professional qualification or affiliation with a relevant professional association is an added advantage.
- Strong verbal and written communication, excellent presentation skills, critical thinking, time management, and attention to detail.
