Job Description

Role Overview

This role puts a subject-specialist teacher at the centre of daily secondary classroom life, guiding learners through Kiswahili, Social Studies, and Creative Arts while keeping instruction aligned with the approved curriculum. The teacher turns syllabus outcomes into sequenced lessons, practical tasks, and assessments that help students build language confidence, civic understanding, and creative expression. By working closely with colleagues and the curriculum coordinator, the position strengthens cross-subject learning and supports steady academic progress across the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach Kiswahili, Social Studies, and Creative Arts lessons for secondary learners, ensuring each session has clear objectives, appropriate pacing, and active student involvement.
  • Develop schemes of work, daily lesson plans, and teaching aids that match the approved syllabus and meet the needs of mixed-ability classes.
  • Use a range of instructional approaches—group tasks, discussion, demonstrations, projects, and practical creative work—to reach learners with different strengths and preferences.
  • Design and administer formative and summative assessments, then use the results to adjust teaching and provide targeted learner support.
  • Work with other subject teachers and the curriculum coordinator on interdisciplinary units, shared assessments, and school-wide learning goals.
  • Explain subject concepts in ways that connect to students’ lives, using examples, practical activities, and real-world contexts that deepen understanding.
  • Maintain an organised, inclusive classroom where learners feel safe to participate, ask questions, and take creative risks.
  • Communicate regularly with learners, colleagues, and school leadership about progress, challenges, and instructional plans.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in secondary teaching education, with a subject specialisation relevant to the assigned teaching areas.
  • Experience: At least three years of relevant classroom teaching experience.
  • Registration: Valid TSC registration.
  • Clearance: Current certificate of good conduct.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication abilities for working effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Technology: Competence in using computers for lesson preparation, record-keeping, and instructional resources.
  • Student welfare: First aid training and childcare skills to support learner safety and well-being.
  • Organisation: Strong organisational skills to manage multiple subjects, deadlines, and learner records.
