Job Description
Role Overview
The Senior Communications and Learning Officer leads all external and internal messaging, content creation, and knowledge-sharing for the RANGE programme. Day to day, this role involves crafting compelling stories from field activities, managing digital channels, and organising events that spotlight programme insights. The work is essential for ensuring the programme’s impact is visible to partners, donors, and policy influencers while helping the team learn and adapt from what works.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute a strategic communications plan that raises the RANGE programme’s visibility across Kenya’s ASAL regions and aligns with wider organisational efforts.
- Produce impactful human-interest stories, case studies, and editorial pieces that showcase programme results and lessons learned.
- Manage a content calendar, coordinate with programme teams and partners to gather multimedia material, and maintain an active presence on relevant social platforms and the programme website.
- Conceptualise and orchestrate thought leadership events — such as workshops, report launches, webinars, and fireside chats — including content curation, vendor coordination, and budget tracking.
- Guide RANGE partners in developing their own communication plans and deliver training on brand standards and storytelling to strengthen their capabilities.
- Lead the collection, synthesis, and dissemination of programme learnings through after-action reviews, learning briefs, exchange visits, and annual workshops.
- Work closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning team to turn evidence and resilience measurement findings into practical products that inform adaptive management and influence policy.
- Build and maintain a structured knowledge management system that stores and shares technical resources, success stories, and innovations across the consortium and externally.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in media and communications, journalism, social studies, or a related field; a master’s degree is an advantage.
- At least three to five years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, or a similar role.
- Proven ability to tell compelling stories through writing, with a portfolio that includes blogs, articles, op-eds, and press releases.
- Track record of developing and implementing full communications plans from start to finish.
- Familiarity with web design and content production (video and still photography) is a plus.
- Strong interest in writing success stories, learning briefs, and technical content, and in coordinating learning events.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to connect effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, from field teams to senior leadership and partner organisations.
