Security Coordinator

Role Overview

This position places you at the centre of protecting people, property, and information for a major energy company operating in Kenya. Working closely with senior leadership and the Security Manager in Nairobi, you will turn security strategy into daily action, from advising on physical protection measures to monitoring intelligence and coordinating responses when incidents occur. Your work directly supports the company’s ability to operate safely and responsibly across a complex risk environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Shape and roll out security plans, objectives, and procedures that align with both local realities and corporate standards.
• Conduct regular threat and vulnerability assessments across company sites, employees, and expatriate staff, then propose practical mitigation steps.
• Act as a trusted adviser to management on security matters, translating risk analysis into clear recommendations for day-to-day operations and major decisions.
• Lead the initial response to security incidents, emergencies, and crises, ensuring accurate documentation, timely escalation, and proper follow-up with all stakeholders.
• Gather and evaluate security and business intelligence from open sources, local contacts, and internal reports to support proactive risk management.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with police, government agencies, community representatives, and other external partners.
• Support internal investigations, vetting processes, and security checks that safeguard employees, assets, sensitive data, and the organisation’s reputation.
• Track incident trends, security alerts, and human rights-related matters, then drive corrective actions and improvements to local security systems and audit processes.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Secondary technical education is required; a degree in security management, criminology, or a related field is strongly preferred.
• Formal training in security operations, paramilitary procedures, and cyber security awareness is expected.
• Professional fluency in English is mandatory; working knowledge of Kiswahili gives you a clear advantage.
• At least several years of hands-on experience in security operations, ideally within the energy, oil and gas, or corporate environment in Kenya.
• Solid understanding of local security procedures, legal frameworks, and risk management practices, including emergency response protocols.
• Strong planning and organisational abilities, with proven problem-solving skills under pressure.
• A proactive, adaptable, and results-driven mindset, plus the ability to think laterally and challenge assumptions when assessing threats.
