Role Overview
The Deputy Lead – Security works shoulder to shoulder with the Head of Security to keep daily protection operations running without gaps across a manufacturing and FMCG environment, and takes the lead whenever the Head of Security is away. The job sits at the centre of shift rostering, gate and access discipline, camera and alarm monitoring, incident response and follow-up investigations, so that employees, visitors, goods and physical assets stay protected around the clock. Because production rarely stops, whoever holds this seat must keep coverage consistent while holding the security team to a professional standard that staff and management can rely on.
Key Responsibilities
- Build deployment plans, duty rosters and shift rotations so every designated post stays staffed, arranging replacements and redeployments as operational needs shift.
- Walk patrol routes and inspect perimeters, then run manpower audits to confirm officers are alert, correctly turned out and following post instructions.
- Oversee movement through factory gates — inbound receipts, dispatch, raw-material offloading and waste removal — making sure security checks are applied consistently at each entry and exit point.
- Supervise access control for staff, contractors, visitors and vehicles, including searches and credential checks carried out courteously and strictly to procedure.
- Monitor CCTV, alarm and access-control systems for exceptions, and recommend fixes wherever vulnerabilities or recurring weaknesses appear.
- Take charge at incidents and emergencies, escalate through the right channels, and keep incidents, irregularities and losses properly logged in the occurrence and incident records.
- Carry out preliminary investigations — gathering statements, facts and intelligence — and produce timely, factual and confidential reports for management review.
- Brief, coach and assess security officers, and refer conduct, discipline or performance concerns up the line with clear supporting evidence.
- Keep deployment registers, rosters, equipment records and periodic operational reports accurate and current for the Head of Security and management.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least 10 years of security experience, with a minimum of 5 years spent supervising or leading security teams and operations, ideally inside manufacturing or FMCG settings.
- A recognised professional security qualification is required; a degree in security management, criminology or a closely related discipline is an added advantage.
- Prior service in corporate security, law enforcement or the military is desirable.
- Hands-on familiarity with CCTV surveillance, access control systems and alarm systems, including reading footage and system logs to spot anomalies.
- A solid working grasp of manpower planning and rostering, investigation methods, incident management, emergency response and security risk management.
- Confident report-writing and record-keeping ability, with practical skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong leadership presence, sound judgement, and a high standard of integrity, confidentiality, discipline and accountability.
- Composure under pressure — able to think clearly and make the right call during a security incident or emergency.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays when operations require it.
Why Join
The position carries genuine scope: you hold the security function steady whenever the Head of Security is away, and your judgement shapes how safely the site runs from one shift to the next. It suits a security professional who prefers leading on the ground rather than from behind a desk, and who takes satisfaction in a team that stays sharp, disciplined and consistent. You also gain exposure to the full breadth of site protection — deployment planning, access control, surveillance, investigations and emergency response — rather than a narrow slice of it.
