Role Overview

This teaching position focuses on delivering English Language and Literature lessons that prioritise inquiry, conceptual understanding, and student-centred discovery. Day to day, you will plan and facilitate lessons that challenge learners to think critically, express themselves clearly, and engage deeply with texts and media – all while aligning with Common Core Standards. Your work directly supports the school’s aim to nurture confident communicators and lifelong readers, writers, and thinkers within a collaborative, values-driven community.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and facilitate inquiry-based English and Literature lessons that weave together language, literary texts, and media studies through conceptual and thematic approaches.
• Create a classroom culture that is both inclusive and academically challenging, where every student feels safe to speak, question, and explore ideas.
• Design and administer a balanced mix of formative and summative assessments to track progress, diagnose learning needs, and adjust instruction in real time.
• Differentiate instruction to address a wide range of learner readiness levels, interests, and language backgrounds – ensuring all students can access rigorous content.
• Develop core competencies in students, including critical thinking, analytical reading, persuasive writing, speaking, and collaborative discussion skills.
• Work closely with colleagues on curriculum mapping, cross-curricular planning, student-wellbeing initiatives, and shared professional learning agendas.
• Communicate proactively with families about student progress, classroom activities, and ways to support learning at home, building trusting partnerships.
• Uphold and model the school’s mission, values, behaviour expectations, and environmental sustainability commitments in all interactions and routines.
• Participate actively in school events, community projects, and extracurricular activities that enrich the wider school culture.
• Engage in continuous reflection and professional development, regularly examining your own practice to grow as an educator.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education or a higher degree, with a focus on English Language and Literature or a closely related field.
• Certification: Valid teacher certification is preferred; Kenyan applicants must hold a valid TSC number.
• Experience: At least two years of full-time teaching experience for Kenyan candidates, and a minimum of five years for international applicants.
• International background: Prior experience teaching in multicultural or international school settings is viewed favourably.
• Instructional expertise: Strong command of language and literature pedagogy, including curriculum design, assessment, and the use of inquiry-based methodologies.
• Classroom and interpersonal skills: Proven ability to manage a dynamic classroom, communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders, and collaborate effectively within a team.
• Mission alignment: Demonstrated commitment to the school’s educational philosophy, inclusive practices, and values.
• Compliance documents: Current police clearance or background check; certified copies of all academic and professional certificates; at least two professional references, one of which must be from a current or most recent supervisor.
