Role Overview
This field-based sales position focuses on building demand for construction and building products through direct contact with trade customers, specifiers, and live project sites. The representative balances planned dealer and site visits with proactive prospecting, turning new projects and inactive accounts into repeat business. By strengthening relationships across the supply chain, the role directly supports the employer’s revenue growth, market coverage, and competitive position.
Key Responsibilities
- Make regular calls on dealers, distributors, painters, contractors, and end customers to present products, explain benefits, and win orders.
- Search out construction sites, upcoming projects, institutions, and other demand sources, then qualify and pursue the strongest opportunities.
- Build lasting relationships with applicators, developers, painters, contractors, and other influencers who help determine which products are chosen.
- Open new accounts and reactivate dormant customers through consistent lead generation, needs discovery, and suitable product recommendations.
- Help dealers improve sell-through, stock movement, and promotional activity so products reach end users efficiently.
- Run product demonstrations, trade presentations, and awareness sessions that answer application questions and build confidence in the range.
- Monitor competitor pricing, product launches, and market activity, and share useful intelligence with the sales manager.
- Keep visit logs, project pipelines, lead records, and weekly or monthly reports up to date while handling customer enquiries and complaints professionally.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A diploma or bachelor’s-level education in business, marketing, engineering, or a comparable discipline.
- At least two and up to three years in a sales role, ideally within building materials or a similar trade-oriented sector.
- Confident communication and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for painters, contractors, dealers, and project stakeholders.
- Strong negotiation and closing ability, plus a clear focus on targets and account growth.
- Customer-first approach and solid problem-solving skills for handling enquiries, complaints, and product-fit questions.
- Excellent organisation and follow-up habits, with the discipline to manage a busy field schedule, records, and reports.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently, with good knowledge of market and customer requirements.
- Willingness to travel and work in the field; holding a current driver’s licence is an advantage.
