Role Overview
Based in Murang’a, the Route Sales Representative visits retailers and informal traders across an assigned territory to take orders, support product availability, and grow sales. The role combines regular customer service with new outlet development, payment follow-up, and market observation to help the business maintain strong distribution and meet its sales goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Visit kiosks, minimarts, market traders, and other assigned customers according to a planned daily route.
- Promote products, secure orders, and work toward daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets.
- Find and approach prospective retail outlets to extend coverage in the territory.
- Confirm customer orders and coordinate delivery timing, checking that orders are fulfilled as agreed.
- Review stock and product presentation at customer locations, recommend replenishment, and help maintain tidy displays.
- Collect payments, follow up on overdue credit balances, and keep sales and payment records accurate.
- Monitor local pricing, customer demand, and competitor activity, and submit regular reports on route performance.
- Organize daily travel to cover the territory effectively and reduce time lost between customer visits.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A certificate or diploma in sales, marketing, business administration, agribusiness, or a related discipline.
- At least three years of practical experience in FMCG route sales, produce distribution, agribusiness, or retail sales.
- Experience serving small retailers or informal traders, including kiosks and market vendors, is strongly preferred.
- Strong selling, negotiation, and customer communication skills, with evidence of working toward sales targets.
- Ability to build dependable working relationships with local merchants and manage field visits independently.
- Good organization and resilience for regular work across a field-based territory.
- A valid driving or motorcycle licence is an advantage.
