Job Description

Role Overview

The Senior Accountant oversees financial operations for Durham International School and its related companies, maintaining dependable accounts and meeting Kenyan tax and reporting requirements. By producing consolidated reports and financial models, the role gives school leaders a sound basis for planning and financial decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage accounting records and financial processes for the school and related companies, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately.
  • Prepare financial reports and consolidated accounts that present a reliable view of performance across the entities.
  • Oversee tax compliance, including relevant Kenyan filings and processes using iTax and eTIMS.
  • Manage payroll accounting and ensure payroll information is accurately reflected in the financial records.
  • Develop financial models and analysis to support strategic planning and management decisions.
  • Administer ERP, point-of-sale, and related financial systems, and use advanced Excel to analyse and reconcile data.
  • Apply IFRS and Kenyan tax requirements consistently while maintaining strong financial controls.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Economics.
  • CPA (Kenya), ACCA, or CA qualification, with current good-standing membership of ICPAK.
  • At least six years of accounting experience, including three years in a senior position.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Kenyan tax compliance, financial consolidations, and payroll.
  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS and Kenyan tax law, with proficiency in iTax and eTIMS.
  • Experience administering ERP systems and using advanced Excel and POS systems.
  • High integrity, meticulous attention to detail, clear communication, strong organisation, and the ability to lead effectively.
  • Additional certification in tax or financial modelling is an advantage.
