Role Overview
The Business Development Officer will grow the organisation’s client base for corporate training and human capital development, working with businesses, government bodies, NGOs and international development agencies. The role covers the full sales cycle—from assessing client needs and shaping training proposals to managing tender submissions, winning engagements and building repeat business.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to enquiries through digital and phone channels, identify prospective clients’ needs and recommend relevant training or executive workshop programmes.
- Follow up on proposals, quotations and registration enquiries to move opportunities toward conversion and support revenue goals.
- Research target organisations and develop new business leads through direct outreach, networking, referrals and industry research.
- Re-engage inactive accounts and strengthen relationships with existing institutional clients.
- Prepare tailored proposals, capability statements, cost estimates and presentations for prospective clients.
- Coordinate and submit responses to expressions of interest, requests for proposals and procurement tenders.
- Present training solutions to HR teams, training committees and senior decision-makers, and identify opportunities to expand existing accounts.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, work with marketing and training colleagues to align offerings with client demand, and report on sales activity and pipeline performance.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, Mass Communication, Public Relations or a related discipline.
- At least five years of progressive experience in business development, B2B sales, account management or institutional client acquisition.
- Experience selling corporate training, executive education, management consulting or other professional services is strongly preferred.
- Practical ability to use CRM systems, monitor sales pipelines and work with digital communication tools and Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong proposal-writing and presentation skills, including experience preparing persuasive tender or procurement submissions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a complete sales cycle, negotiate with organisational buyers and build relationships with senior stakeholders.
- A self-directed, target-focused approach to developing leads and converting opportunities into business.
- Available for full-time, on-site work in Westlands, Nairobi, including visits to corporate clients.
