Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated, territory-focused Retail Sales Representative to accelerate market penetration and volume growth for our manufactured portfolio of commercial cleaning chemicals, hygiene solutions, and sanitation products. Your primary objective is to cultivate and expand a high-yield network of retail accounts, wholesalers, sub-distributors, and hardware stores across the Nairobi metropolitan area. This role bridges aggressive field-level business development with structured channel merchandising. You will steer the entire merchant relationship cycle – from active lead prospecting and structured pricing negotiations to dominant product placement and absolute invoice reconciliation. The role demands an energetic, quota-driven trade professional who understands FMCG route-to-market mechanics and thrives in a fast-paced, highly competitive field sales ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Territory Penetration & Account Recruitment

  • Drive consistent achievement of assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual sales volume benchmarks within the designated trade zone.
  • Systematically map the territory to discover, pitch, and onboard new retail outlets, regional wholesalers, and specialized construction hardware stores.
  • Conduct persuasive product demonstrations showcasing chemical efficacy, formulation dilutions, and cost-per-use benefits to merchant buyers.
  • Formulate and present attractive bulk-purchasing incentives, seasonal discounts, and bundle offers to secure high-volume merchant sign-ups.

Merchant Cultivation & Portfolio Insulation

  • Maintain a methodical field visitation schedule, checking in on existing commercial accounts regularly to assess stock turnover and drive consistent reorders.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for trade inquiries, resolving order discrepancies, product questions, or logistical bottlenecks with speed and poise.
  • Provide consultative product support, educating retail staff on product applications, surface safeties, and shelf-life metrics to optimize end-consumer trust.
  • Secure premium shelf space and high-visibility floor positions inside merchant outlets to trigger immediate consumer brand recall.

Sales Administration & Revenue Reconciliation

  • Generate accurate price quotes, process purchase orders seamlessly, and coordinate with the dispatch team to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Enforce strict compliance with corporate credit timelines, monitoring outstanding merchant balances and spearheading payment collections.
  • Compile and manage clear field logs detailing daily route coverage, successful account conversions, and incoming order values.
  • Produce precise weekly trade reports and monthly sales forecasts to guide production management teams on demand expectations.

Market Intelligence & Campaign Execution

  • Track competitor product innovations, shifting retail price structures, and active merchant promotional campaigns in real time.
  • Gather direct merchant and end-consumer feedback regarding packaging performance, scent preferences, and price sensitivities to feed back to product development.
  • Anchor the physical setup and consumer engagement loops for regional trade exhibitions, targeted store activations, and new product launch campaigns.

Qualifications & Competencies

Minimum Entry Criteria

  • Academic Foundation: Diploma in Sales and Marketing, Business Administration, or a closely related commercial discipline.
  • FMCG Longevity: Minimum of 3 years of progressive, verified field sales experience explicitly working within the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector.
  • Sector Familiarity: Proven experience distributed within the detergent, industrial cleaning chemicals, packaging, or hygiene products ecosystem is highly preferred.
  • Channel Experience: Demonstrated track record selling directly to retail networks, traditional wholesale hubs, or hardware distribution pipelines is a distinct advantage.
