Job Description

Role Overview

This clinical role places you at the centre of day-to-day patient care in a facility comparable in scale to leading Kenyan hospitals. You will perform independent medical consultations, handle admissions, and guide patients through treatment and recovery, while also acting as the first line of response for emergencies. Beyond treating individuals, you will contribute to the facility's clinical standards through accurate documentation, infection control, and participation in continuous professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out comprehensive patient assessments, arrive at accurate diagnoses, and formulate safe, appropriate treatment plans.
  • Oversee the care of inpatients, including daily monitoring, adjustment of therapy, and coordination of timely discharge planning.
  • Respond to medical emergencies within the facility, delivering initial stabilisation and arranging further management or referral as needed.
  • Take part in ward rounds, case reviews, and multidisciplinary consultations to ensure continuity of care across departments.
  • Maintain complete, legible, and legally sound medical records for every patient encounter, including investigations, procedures, and outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues, providing clear updates and supporting informed consent processes.
  • Follow established infection prevention protocols, standard operating procedures, and ethical codes of practice in all clinical duties.
  • Engage actively in continuous medical education sessions and quality improvement activities to elevate service delivery and clinical outcomes.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognised institution.
  • At least three years of hands-on clinical experience working in a healthcare facility of a similar size and level of activity.
  • Current registration and a valid practising licence from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
  • Demonstrated competence in general medical practice, spanning differential diagnosis, evidence-based treatment, and preventive care.
  • Ability to manage acute presentations and stabilise critically ill patients while coordinating input from specialists and support staff.
  • Strong clinical documentation skills, with meticulous attention to detail in case notes, referral letters, and handover summaries.
  • Clear verbal and written communication, allowing effective interaction with diverse patients, families, and members of the care team.
  • Sound judgement, analytical reasoning, and the capacity to make decisive, ethical decisions under pressure.
  • Compassionate, patient-first attitude that upholds dignity, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity throughout the care journey.
