Gross Salary Structure: Kshs. 40,000 – 50,000 NET
Location: Along Thika Road
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly disciplined, certified Refrigeration Technician to take complete technical charge of our heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and commercial cooling infrastructure. Your primary objective is to manage the operational life cycle of chilling units, cold storage rooms, and climate systems, ensuring zero downtime across active installations. This position bridges complex electro-mechanical troubleshooting with routine field-level service; you will guide projects from technical blueprint interpretations and structural equipment placement through to precise gas brazing, pressure testing, and chemical recovery. The role demands an agile technician who can navigate multi-gauge diagnostic arrays independently while maintaining total alignment with national environmental and safety codes.
Scope of Responsibilities
Layout Engineering & Infrastructure Assembly
- Map out, structural-test, and commission high-capacity cooling plants, industrial chillers, localized AC arrays, and auxiliary piping networks.
- Anchor structural compressor housings, heavy condenser blocks, and ventilation paths securely in accordance with strict manufacturer dimensions.
- Lay out electrical control cables, sensor nodes, and power feeds, verifying that voltage supplies match equipment specifications.
Diagnostics, Maintenance & System Calibration
- Conduct methodical physical walk-throughs to capture vacuum leak vectors, structural corrosion patterns, and mechanical friction drops early.
- Perform planned service interventions, blowing out clogged filtering traps, checking core refrigerant pressures, and cleaning evaporator coils.
- Isolate electrical short circuits, reading multi-meter resistances and diagnostic fault readouts to locate compromised system circuits.
- Calibrate thermal limits, air delivery fans, and pressure valves to maximize energy conversion rates and stabilize environmental metrics.
Mechanical Overhauls & Component Restoration
- Dismantle and rebuild or replace failing high-value components including mechanical compressors, blower motors, expansional values, and relays.
- Execute high-precision oxy-acetylene torch brazing, pipe joint threading, and manifold coupling work to seal pressurized cooling lines.
- Manage immediate response lines to tackle emergency infrastructure collapses, minimizing thermal drops inside critical storage rooms.
- Operate recovery units to safely extract, filter, and store regulated coolant gasses without triggering direct atmosphere leaks.
Administrative Reporting & Asset Compliance
- Input exact machine readings, oil updates, part numbers, and tracking notes inside centralized facility logbooks.
- Coordinate with the store clerk to verify inventory levels for backup components, testing chemicals, and specialized service gear.
- Enforce absolute adherence to corporate safety measures, personal protection targets, and municipal electrical work codes.
- Outline technical remediation budgets and infrastructure improvement suggestions clearly for facility engineering leads.
Skills & Experience Required
Minimum Entry Criteria
- Academic Foundation: Valid Certificate or Diploma in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (HVAC Engineering) from an accredited technical polytechnic or national institution.
- Field Longevity: Minimum of 5 years of active, hands-on experience executing complex industrial or large-scale commercial refrigeration diagnostics and plant maintenance.
- Schematic Literacy: Proven capability to read, interpret, and trace complex multi-layered architectural blueprints, thermodynamic cycle charts, and electrical wiring schematics.
- Physical Aptitude: Fully fit and capable of executing precise mechanical modifications inside confined machinery spaces or at elevated building heights safely.
Functional Competencies
- Diagnostic Acuity: Expert familiarity with digital manifold gauges, vacuum pumps, recovery systems, and electronic leak spotters.
- Safety Mastery: Complete knowledge of safe coolant handling practices, pressure testing safety margins, and high-voltage safety configurations.
- Clear Articulation: Strong communicative ability to break down mechanical failure roots and potential infrastructure risks to corporate facility boards.
Perks & Environment
- Technical Ownership: Take complete administrative and mechanical command of an expansive portfolio of modern cooling assets and infrastructure designs.
- Operational Stability: Lock in a highly competitive, guaranteed net salary package within a structured engineering department.
- Skill Advancement: Build on your existing capabilities by mastering automated climate management tools and high-efficiency green cooling frameworks.
