Job Description

Role Overview

This internship puts you at the centre of the firm's market intelligence work, gathering and interpreting property data that underpins valuations, consultancy advice, investment appraisals and everyday business decisions. You will move between fieldwork and desk research — inspecting properties, mining online and government sources, cleaning datasets and turning what you find into charts, reports and published commentary. Your output directly shapes the quality of advice clients receive and strengthens the firm's standing as a credible voice on where the property market is heading.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect property market data through site visits, field surveys, online listing platforms, government publications and internal records, covering sales, rentals, occupancy levels, new development activity and wider market movements.
  • Clean, validate and standardise the information you gather, then keep the firm's property market database current and well documented — including digitising older valuation evidence, comparable records and historical market files.
  • Monitor economic, demographic and regulatory developments that influence property values and demand, and flag the ones that matter to live assignments.
  • Analyse rental movements, capital values, yields, vacancy rates and investment performance, presenting the results through summary tables, charts, graphs and Power BI dashboards.
  • Compile comparable sales, rental and market evidence for valuation and consultancy work, and contribute research to feasibility studies, highest-and-best-use analyses, investment appraisals and market assessments.
  • Write property briefs, market commentaries and educational articles for the company website, newsletters, blogs and social channels, translating technical findings into reader-friendly insight and proposing new topics worth covering.
  • Prepare presentations and reports for management and clients, and support other research and data analytics projects running within the department.
  • Protect the confidentiality of company and client information, and take on additional duties assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Estate Management, Valuation & Property Management, Economics, Statistics, Data Science or a closely related discipline.
  • Working command of Microsoft Excel — pivot tables, lookup functions, charts and data analysis — with a basic grounding in statistical analysis.
  • Understanding of real estate fundamentals and valuation principles, including how market evidence and comparable transactions are used.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI or a similar data visualisation tool for building charts, dashboards and presentations.
  • Basic knowledge of QGIS or ArcGIS is an added advantage, along with ease in using online property research platforms and mapping applications.
  • Desirable extras: basic SQL or Python, and awareness of data analytics and business intelligence tools.
  • Working knowledge of the Kenyan real estate market.
  • Strong analytical and numerical ability, sharp attention to detail, and solid research and investigative instincts.
  • Good report writing and technical writing skills, plus confident communication and presentation ability.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving aptitude, with curiosity and a genuine willingness to learn.
  • Sound organisational and time-management habits, able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Professionalism, integrity and a reliable approach to handling confidential material.
  • Experience: coursework or university projects involving real estate research, valuation, economics or data analysis, and prior use of Excel for analysis and reporting. Participation in market surveys, research projects or academic publications is an added advantage, as is earlier internship, industrial attachment or volunteer experience in real estate, research, valuation or data analytics. Exposure to Power BI, GIS, SQL or Python is welcome but not mandatory.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • Hands-on grounding in real estate market research and intelligence within a working property practice.
  • Involvement in valuation and consultancy assignments, including feasibility studies and investment research.
  • Practical experience with data analytics, business intelligence and dashboard development.
  • Responsibility for developing and maintaining a professional property database.
  • Opportunities to write and publish market reports, briefs and commentary.
  • Mentorship and day-to-day learning alongside a multidisciplinary real estate team.
