Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Undertaking and coordinating investigation in the maritime field;
- Conducting investigation into maritime casualties including wreck under the Casualty Investigation Code;
- Undertaking enquiries with respect to charges of incompetence on the part of the seafarers;
- Implementing the Nairobi Wreck Removal Convention;
- Taking the command and preservation of vessels and lives of persons and cargo when ship is wrecked in Kenyan waters;
- Reporting outcomes of maritime casualty investigations as required by IMO to the DG;
- Publishing lessons learned from casualty investigation
- Evaluating flag, port and coastal state obligation, performance and effectiveness;
- Investigating occupational accidents;
- Investigating seafarers and ships certificate suspensions and withdrawal.

- Certificate of Competency – Marine Engineer Officer (STCW)
- Certificate of Competency – Deck Officer (STCW)
- Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering
