Role Overview
This position takes full ownership of a food processing plant's daily rhythms, from scheduling production runs to verifying that every batch meets strict safety and quality standards. The role is critical because it directly connects frontline teams with broader business targets, balancing throughput with cost control and waste reduction. Day-to-day work involves walking the floor to troubleshoot bottlenecks, reviewing yield data, and guiding supervisors to keep operations both efficient and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and adjust weekly production schedules based on order demand, raw material availability, and equipment downtime.
- Lead shift supervisors and line workers to maintain consistent output levels while adhering to HACCP and ISO food-safety protocols.
- Monitor key performance indicators such as yield, downtime, and labour efficiency, then implement corrective actions to hit targets.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule preventive repairs without disrupting planned production runs.
- Oversee inventory levels of raw materials and packaging, ensuring reorder points align with production forecasts.
- Prepare operational performance reports for management, highlighting variances, root causes, and recommended improvements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, such as reducing changeover times or standardising cleaning procedures.
- Enforce occupational safety rules, conduct regular walk-through inspections, and address non-compliance immediately.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Industrial Engineering, or Operations Management.
- Minimum of five years’ hands-on experience in food or beverage processing environments.
- Working knowledge of HACCP principles and ISO 9001/22000 standards.
- Proven ability to create and manage production schedules in a high-volume plant.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills, with experience supervising multiple shifts.
- Budget awareness and cost-control mindset, particularly around yield improvement and waste reduction.
- Solid computer literacy (ERP systems, spreadsheets, reporting tools).
- Analytical problem-solving approach, able to make decisions under time pressure.
