Production Coordinator
Role Overview
This position acts as the link between the production plan and what actually happens on the factory floor, building schedules, allocating people and equipment, and adjusting when something slips so that orders ship on time without sacrificing quality. The coordinator spends the working day moving between the schedule, the shop floor, and supporting teams — checking progress against targets, resolving material or staffing gaps, and flagging problems before they grow into missed deadlines. The role matters because it is what keeps output predictable: without this coordination, delays, waste, and quality failures surface only at the end of the line.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain production schedules for all manufacturing orders, then revise them as priorities, capacity, or material availability change.
- Track progress against the schedule throughout each shift or reporting period, spot emerging delays, and drive corrective action to protect delivery dates.
- Work with procurement and inventory teams so raw materials, components, and supplies arrive in the right quantities at the right point in the schedule.
- Assign personnel, equipment, and materials across production activities, making sure every team member understands their tasks and responsibilities.
- Supervise and support the production team on the floor, reinforcing safe working practices, quality expectations, and productivity targets.
- Check output against product specifications and company quality standards, partner with quality assurance on inspections and rejected items, and see that corrective measures are carried through.
- Analyse production data to uncover bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and waste, and propose or implement process changes that raise throughput and lower cost per unit.
- Maintain accurate production documentation — work orders, inspection reports, inventory logs, and standard operating procedures — and report performance, obstacles, and fixes to management on a regular basis.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Production Management, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a closely related discipline.
- Three to four years of hands-on experience in production coordination, operations, or a comparable manufacturing role.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality management practices, workplace safety standards, and inventory control.
- Confident use of Microsoft Excel and comparable planning or data-handling tools for scheduling, tracking, and reporting.
- Strong organisational and time-management ability, with the capacity to juggle multiple orders, deadlines, and competing demands at once.
- Leadership instincts and a collaborative approach to working with production staff, maintenance, logistics, procurement, and quality teams.
- Willingness to adapt to new systems, methods, and process improvements as they are introduced.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for documenting issues and briefing management.
