Pool Audiologist

Role Overview

You will be the clinical ear, hearing, and balance specialist within a multidisciplinary healthcare team, responsible for diagnosing auditory disorders across the full patient lifespan—from newborns through to older adults. Your day-to-day work involves operating diagnostic equipment, interpreting test results to distinguish between conductive and sensorineural hearing loss, and shaping treatment plans that may include hearing aids, cochlear implant referrals, or patient education. Your assessments directly influence clinical decisions, making your precision and communication essential to positive patient outcomes and long-term hearing health.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive audiological evaluations using equipment such as audiometers and speech analysis tools, adapting testing approaches to suit each patient's age and ability.
• Interpret test results from pure-tone audiometry, speech audiometry, tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions, and auditory brainstem response testing to determine the nature and degree of hearing impairment.
• Recommend and fit appropriate hearing aids, or initiate referrals for cochlear implant candidacy when hearing aids are insufficient.
• Track patients on follow-up visits, documenting changes in hearing status and adjusting management plans accordingly.
• Provide personalised guidance to patients and families on hearing conservation, hearing loss prevention, and realistic expectations for rehabilitation.
• Collaborate closely with paediatricians, ENT surgeons, audiologists, and other specialists to deliver integrated care through newborn screening, paediatric assessment, and adult audiology services.
• Maintain accurate and confidential audiometric records, ensuring compliance with data protection and hospital documentation policies.
• Teach patients and their families about planned investigations, test procedures, and follow-up appointment schedules, ensuring they fully understand the next steps in their care pathway.
• Uphold strict infection prevention protocols and report any safety incidents, equipment faults, or hazards in line with institutional regulations.
• Contribute to data collection for unit-based quality indicators and take part in continuing education and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma in Clinical Audiology from an accredited institution.
• At least 2 years of practical experience in a high-volume audiology clinic, with significant exposure to paediatric patients.
• Proficiency in conducting and interpreting Pure Tone Audiometry, Speech Audiometry, Tympanometry, Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions, Auditory Brainstem Response, Neonatal Hearing Screening, and Visual Reinforcement Audiometry.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex audiological information clearly to patients, families, and colleagues.
