Role Overview
As a Laboratory Technologist at Komarock Modern Healthcare’s Kitengela branch, you will be responsible for the accurate collection, processing, and analysis of patient specimens, transforming raw samples into dependable diagnostic results that directly inform clinical decisions. Your day-to-day work spans routine and specialised testing, equipment calibration, quality control checks, and close collaboration with medical staff to ensure results are delivered promptly and correctly. This role is essential to maintaining the facility’s standard of patient safety and diagnostic excellence in a busy healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, label, and register patient specimens while ensuring proper storage, handling, and documentation from collection to reporting.
- Perform laboratory tests on blood, urine, tissue, and other bodily fluids using established protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and analysers, identifying and resolving minor technical issues to minimise downtime.
- Review test results for accuracy and completeness, repeating or escalating any questionable findings before release.
- Prepare reagents, monitors inventory levels, and order supplies to keep the laboratory running without interruption.
- Follow strict quality assurance and infection control procedures to prevent contamination and ensure reliable outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records in the laboratory information system and prepare clear reports for clinicians and patients.
- Support the wider clinical team by answering queries about test availability, sample requirements, and result interpretation.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid professional license to work as a Laboratory Technologist, where applicable.
- Diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or a related health science discipline.
- Strong critical-thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to spot anomalies and troubleshoot effectively.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to precision in every test performed and result recorded.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while also contributing positively to team goals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear interaction with colleagues and clinical staff.
- Highly organised and self-motivated, comfortable managing multiple tasks and supporting various projects simultaneously.
- Consistent adherence to laboratory safety, hygiene, and confidentiality standards.
