Job Description

Role Overview

This academic appointment centres on shaping finance and economics students through rigorous classroom teaching, applied market-focused instruction, and an active research programme. The postholder will move between lecture preparation, curriculum renewal, student supervision, and scholarly writing while keeping close ties to real securities markets and trading technology. The work matters because it builds the next cohort of finance professionals and strengthens the department’s research profile, industry relevance, and external funding capacity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver assigned modules and course units across finance and economics programmes, adapting content to different levels and student backgrounds.
  • Create, plan, and roll out new or revised programmes of study, including full course designs where needed.
  • Teach engaging lectures and applied sessions that connect theory to securities markets, market data, and trading platform practice.
  • Audit course materials and assessment approaches regularly, refreshing them to reflect current industry practice and academic developments.
  • Work with academic colleagues on curriculum redesign, programme review, and joint research initiatives.
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research, prepare grant applications, and pursue consultancy engagements.
  • Present findings at national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops, and disseminate research through appropriate channels.
  • Mentor students and junior staff on academic progress, career pathways, and professional development, and take on additional responsibilities assigned by the Department Chair.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Finance or Economics; or a Master’s degree combined with CFA or CPA-K certification and more than five years of relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum three years of university-level teaching or research experience in a Lecturer or Research Fellow capacity.
  • Demonstrated hands-on use of securities market data services and trading platforms.
  • Track record of presenting and contributing to academic conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  • Evidence of securing research funding.
  • Successful supervision of at least two postgraduate students through to completion.
  • Peer-reviewed publications or equivalent scholarly outputs produced while serving as a Lecturer or Research Fellow.
  • Current knowledge of finance industry standards and active membership in a relevant professional association.
