Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking an academic with a strong foundation in Economics, Statistics, or Econometrics to join our department. In this role, you will teach across a range of programmes, contribute to curriculum innovation, and drive research that uses national statistics data to address real-world questions. Your efforts will directly support the institution’s goals of delivering high-quality education and producing research that influences policy and practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses and modules, delivering both lectures and practical sessions to students at various levels.
  • Design, plan, and develop new programmes of study, including course materials and assessments.
  • Regularly review and update course content to ensure it remains current and effective.
  • Collaborate with academic colleagues on curriculum development and joint research activities.
  • Conduct independent research, write grant proposals, and seek funding opportunities.
  • Engage in consultancy work and present research findings at national and international conferences.
  • Publish research outputs in peer-reviewed journals and other appropriate outlets.
  • Provide mentorship and career guidance to students and junior staff, and undertake other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • PhD in Economics, Statistics, or Econometrics from a recognised or accredited university.
  • Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics, or Econometrics from a recognised or accredited university.
  • Proficiency in R, Stata, or Python, with demonstrable experience using national statistics data.
  • A minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points, of which at least sixteen (16) must come from refereed journal articles.
  • At least three (3) years of post-qualification work experience.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and practices.
  • Registration with a relevant professional body.
