Role Overview
This faculty position sits at the intersection of finance, information technology and regulation, and it exists to prepare students for careers in a rapidly digitising financial sector. Day to day, the successful candidate will teach and develop courses on mobile money, payments, digital lending and banking innovation while also pursuing an active research agenda that produces refereed publications and attracts external funding. The role matters because the institution needs academics who can bridge rigorous theory with the practical realities of financial-sector regulation, data protection and emerging financial technologies, and who can mentor the next generation of practitioners and scholars.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver lectures, seminars and practical sessions across modules assigned by the Head of Department, ensuring content is accurate, current and aligned with learning outcomes.
- Design, plan and introduce new programmes and courses at various academic levels, including syllabi, assessment tasks and practical exercises.
- Review and refresh existing course materials on a regular cycle so that teaching keeps pace with changes in digital finance, regulation and industry practice.
- Work with academic colleagues on curriculum reform, programme development and the creation of joint research activities.
- Conduct original research in digital finance or a closely related field, publish findings in refereed journals and prepare grant proposals to secure research funding.
- Seek out and take part in consultancy assignments that connect academic expertise with industry practice.
- Present research papers at national and international conferences, workshops and similar academic events, and disseminate research outputs through appropriate channels.
- Provide mentorship, academic supervision and career guidance to students and fellow staff members.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (PhD) in Finance, IT or FinTech from an accredited university in a relevant field.
- A Master's degree in one of those same fields from a recognised institution.
- Three or more years of post-qualification work experience in academia, research or a relevant professional setting.
- Hands-on experience with mobile money, payments, digital lending or banking innovation.
- Familiarity with financial-sector regulation and data protection frameworks.
- A track record of at least twenty-four publication points, with sixteen or more of those derived from refereed journal articles.
- Active registration with a relevant professional body.
- A demonstrated commitment to staying current with industry standards and emerging practice in digital finance.
