Role Overview
The Public Relations Strategist owns how Mogo Kenya is understood by the outside world — by journalists, regulators, industry bodies, partners and customers — and turns commercial priorities into communications programmes that earn credible coverage and build confidence. Day to day, this means shaping narratives, pitching and nurturing media relationships, preparing leadership for public moments, watching the external environment for anything that could affect the company's standing, and reporting back on whether the work is genuinely shifting perception. It is a senior, consultative seat: the person in it advises leadership on reputation and stakeholder matters while keeping communications tightly aligned to where the business is heading in Kenya's financial services and asset financing space.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and deliver PR strategy: design and run integrated public relations and communications plans that map to business goals, brand positioning and growth ambitions, and turn those priorities into storylines, campaigns and programmes that land with both internal and external audiences.
- Build the media relationships that matter: cultivate durable connections with reporters, editors, media houses and industry influencers, then use them to secure relevant, high-quality coverage rather than volume for its own sake.
- Grow executive visibility and thought leadership: identify openings for leadership commentary, bylined opinion, expert analysis and industry participation, and produce the supporting material — press releases, media briefs, talking points, speeches and message houses.
- Own the corporate narrative on owned channels: oversee content on the website and LinkedIn so it stays accurate, current, engaging and consistent with brand and business objectives.
- Guard reputation and manage risk: track coverage, public conversation, industry shifts and emerging issues; prepare proactive responses to sensitive business matters; and give management timely reads on perception, sentiment and reputational exposure.
- Support strategic stakeholder engagement: help shape engagement with regulators, industry associations, partners, media and other external audiences, with communication approaches that foster understanding and trust.
- Drive campaigns and business support: lead PR around product launches, partnerships, corporate initiatives and industry engagement programmes, partnering closely with internal teams to keep messaging accurate, audience-focused and consistent, and finding ways to amplify milestones and customer impact.
- Measure, report and manage resources: produce regular performance reporting covering media analysis, reach, sentiment and campaign outcomes; convert that data into practical recommendations; and support budget planning and record-keeping for PR activity, engagements and partnerships.
