OpenShift Implementation Engineer

Role Overview

This role centres on the daily management and optimisation of OpenShift container platforms, ensuring clusters run reliably, securely, and at scale. You will be responsible for deploying and maintaining containerised applications, building and automating CI/CD pipelines, and implementing monitoring solutions like the ELK stack. Your work directly supports the organisation's move toward more efficient, automated infrastructure and faster application delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the full lifecycle of OpenShift clusters, including deploying control plane components, worker nodes, and configuring networking.
• Manage containerised application deployments – from image creation and registry management through to release, scaling, and retirement.
• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions to automate application builds and deployments.
• Apply Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices with Ansible, Terraform, or equivalent tools to provision and manage cluster infrastructure programmatically.
• Troubleshoot performance, stability, and security issues across OpenShift clusters and their hosted applications, performing root cause analysis and applying fixes.
• Enforce security best practices for cluster configuration, container images, network policies, and access controls.
• Build and sustain monitoring and logging stacks, specifically the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), including dashboards and alerts for cluster and application health.
• Create and maintain automation scripts in languages like Python or Bash to streamline operational tasks and reduce manual intervention.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience with OpenShift, covering installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning across both on-premise and cloud environments.
• Solid understanding of containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker), container registries, and orchestration concepts.
• Proven ability to implement and manage the ELK stack for logging and monitoring, including log analysis to identify bottlenecks and vulnerabilities.
• Experience with CI/CD tooling and pipeline design (Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions).
• Practical knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or similar.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) and ideally one programming language (Go or Java).
• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is optional but desirable.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical issues clearly with cross-functional teams.
