Multimedia Specialist

Role Overview

This role leads the planning, creation, and delivery of digital learning experiences that blend instructional design, educational technology, and multimedia production. Day to day, you will partner with faculty and designers to produce video, audio, animations, and interactive elements for online courses, while also managing studio facilities that support hands-on academic work. Your efforts ensure that the institution's digital and physical production capabilities are cohesive, accessible, and aligned with modern teaching practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce and edit a range of multimedia assets—including videos, animations, interactive graphics, simulations, and audio—for online courses, MOOCs, and other digital education programs.
• Take the lead on incorporating emerging educational technologies into learning management systems and other digital platforms, evaluating and recommending new tools and methods.
• Partner with faculty and instructional designers to ensure multimedia and digital content supports course learning outcomes, pedagogical strategies, and accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1 AA.
• Coordinate the use of audio, video, and print studio facilities for academic programs and assignments, preparing resources and providing hands-on technical guidance during studio sessions; support the studio lab by maintaining equipment inventory, performing daily checks and minor repairs, recommending upgrades, and issuing/tracking equipment with periodic audits.
• Design and deliver training sessions for faculty and staff on educational technology tools, e-learning authoring platforms, and multimedia production techniques.
• Create interactive learning objects using tools like H5P, Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, and similar, and apply web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to customize learning interfaces and build interactive components.
• Manage multimedia production workflows from start to finish—storyboarding, scripting, production, post-production, publishing, and archiving—while maintaining a centralized digital asset repository with version control and metadata tagging.
• Run quality assurance tests on digital learning materials across devices and platforms, troubleshoot delivery and access issues, monitor developments in digital education, and contribute to the university's digital learning strategy; provide additional technical and graphic design support to other departments as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in educational technology, instructional design, multimedia production, computer science, information technology, or a closely related area.
• Master's degree in educational technology, instructional design, digital learning, or a related field is preferred.
• Relevant professional qualification and membership in a relevant professional body.
• At least three years of professional experience in educational technology, multimedia production, graphic design, digital learning content development, or a similar field.
• Proven experience supporting faculty with instructional design, content creation, and technology integration in higher education.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multimedia production projects from conception through delivery in an educational context.
• Familiarity with studio-based audio/video production and equipment management is a plus.
