Job Description

Role Overview

This consultancy sits within the Marine and Coastal Ecosystem Unit of the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR), where you will translate complex conservation, ocean finance, and environmental health topics into compelling visual stories. Your work will span two streams: elevating GFCR’s brand and multimedia presence across digital channels, and designing data-rich publications on wastewater surveillance for the Source to Sea Pollution unit. Day to day, you will move between graphic design, video editing, website updates, and publication layout, ensuring every product is polished, accessible, and aligned with UN and partner brand standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and produce high-impact graphic materials—including report layouts, presentation decks, factsheets, campaign assets, and publication covers—that adhere to GFCR and partner brand guidelines while keeping a consistent visual identity across all outputs.
  • Capture, edit, and package photo and video content for case studies, including conducting interviews, shooting b-roll, and assembling narrative-driven videos for digital platforms, events, and presentations; create light motion graphics or animations when needed.
  • Build and maintain a forward-looking social media content pipeline, producing platform-specific visuals and video assets aligned with global ocean, climate, biodiversity, health, and finance milestones.
  • Design and format the GFCR quarterly digital newsletter, developing layouts and visual elements that are clear, accessible, and easy to navigate for diverse audiences.
  • Upload, format, and update website content, and support a light visual facelift to improve page layout, visual coherence, and overall presentation, coordinating with technical teams as needed.
  • Lead the layout, design, and visual storytelling of the GFCR 5-Year Midpoint Report, including infographics and data visualizations, and deliver both print-ready and web-optimized versions.
  • Organize and manage the GFCR photo and video repository, handling labelling, metadata, and version control so assets remain searchable, accessible, and reusable across communications products.
  • Design and format four technical publications on wastewater surveillance—covering lessons learned, harmonized approaches, capacity needs assessments, and a roadmap—transforming data, charts, tables, and findings into clean, publication-ready layouts with effective infographics.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • An advanced university degree in communications, environmental programmes, or a related field is required; alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience will be accepted.
  • At least two years of professional experience in communications and environmental programmes is required, with demonstrated ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams that include local and expatriate technical experts.
  • Strong proficiency in graphic design software, website content management systems, and social media tools is required, along with a portfolio that shows polished visual design and multimedia production.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills are required, with the ability to structure work, deliver on deadlines, and report clearly on progress.
  • Fluency in written and oral English is required; working knowledge of French is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Experience in planning webinars, trainings, or workshops is desirable, as is the proven ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines for simultaneous projects.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is a chance to apply your creative skills to urgent global issues—protecting coral reef ecosystems and strengthening public health surveillance. You will work with a mission-driven UN team, gain exposure to high-level environmental and policy audiences, and see your designs shape advocacy, partner engagement, and resource mobilization efforts around the world.
