Job Purpose
To provide strategic clinical leadership, ensure high‑quality patient care, manage medical staff, and uphold regulatory compliance. The Medical Officer In Charge will coordinate services, lead emergency response, and foster a culture of safety and collaboration.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee daily clinical operations and ensure adherence to hospital policies, clinical governance, and national healthcare standards.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of medical officers, nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Manage a wide range of medical conditions, including emergencies, and coordinate multidisciplinary care.
- Implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives, patient safety protocols, and infection control measures.
- Ensure accurate documentation and utilisation of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and hospital information systems.
- Represent the hospital in professional meetings, regulatory audits, and community engagements.
- Facilitate continuous medical education, research, and professional development within the team.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).
- Minimum 5 years’ post‑internship experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Registration and valid practising licence from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
Key Competencies
- Proficiency in general medical practice with ability to manage a wide range of conditions.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with proven mentorship experience.
- Knowledge of healthcare delivery systems, clinical governance, and hospital operations.
- Capacity to manage emergencies and coordinate multidisciplinary care.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and decision‑making skills.
- Competence in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and hospital information systems.
- High ethical standards, integrity, and patient‑centred approach.
