Role Purpose
This role reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on property, plant, and equipment to achieve overall efficiency and effectiveness.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Plant Maintenance
- Process, plan, implement, control, review, and adjust a maintenance schedule for assigned jobs.
- Perform preventive and condition-based maintenance of machines according to laid-down instructions and procedures to ensure smooth running.
- Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and machine failures by inspection and testing, prescribe corrective action, and reinstate equipment to working condition.
- Ensure efficient machine operations during shift cover.
- Initiate purchase requisitions for machine spare parts for maintenance.
- Identify and report all asset misuse (e.g., machines, spares, tools, etc.).
- Carry out machine modification, improvement, and innovation to improve efficiency.
- Conduct maintenance checks on building structure and facilities.
- Perform basic maintenance of plant utilities (generators, compressors, etc.).
- Support maintenance of building, facility, and machines at the Central Support Office.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Maintenance Reporting
- Inspect machine operations and record accurate data such as pressures, temperatures, etc., to ascertain smooth operation or service requirements.
- Log details of work performed on data records to enable further action, planning for next service, and storage as history.
- Capture correct and accurate data, including task details and time taken, on job cards.
Communication & Accountability
- Improve process accountability through face-to-face discussions.
- Ensure effective communication.
- Participate in conflict resolution; escalate chronic issues that require urgent attention.
Continual Improvement Initiatives
- Support PaTaMu, CI, ERM, and 6K initiatives and objectives.
- Offer support and training to AM team members.
- Continually generate improvement ideas and actively participate in CI projects.
- Improve operational efficiencies through PaTaMu.
- Identify process challenges and use PDCA to address bottlenecks.
- Support activities around Unga’s culture code – FIRST.
Safety, Health, Environment (SHE) & Food Safety
- Support SHE and GMP/FSMS initiatives and objectives in the department.
- Identify and report all quality and food safety issues during daily operations.
- Participate in planned workplace safety trainings.
- Ensure adherence and compliance to safety requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- BSc Mechanical Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance, mechanical installations, welding, and fabrication.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a busy manufacturing company.
- Competent in troubleshooting, problem solving, team building, planning, and decision making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
