Role Overview
You will be the go-to person for keeping production machinery, equipment, and plant utilities running without interruption. Your daily focus is a mix of scheduled preventive maintenance and urgent reactive repairs, diagnosing mechanical faults quickly and executing reliable fixes. The work matters because every minute of unscheduled downtime directly impacts manufacturing output, so your ability to anticipate failures and respond decisively is critical to the plant’s overall performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance routines and respond to unplanned breakdowns on production lines, pumps, conveyors, and other mechanical systems to restore operation swiftly.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose root causes of mechanical failures using observation, testing, and diagnostic tools, then implement lasting repair solutions rather than temporary patches.
- Install, align, and test new or replacement machinery, including mounting equipment, fitting gaskets, pressure gauges, and valves, and verifying that installations meet operational specifications.
- Propose and implement engineering modifications to improve reliability, reduce recurring faults, and extend the lifespan of existing equipment.
- Work with production teams to analyze current manufacturing processes and recommend mechanical adjustments that improve efficiency, lower scrap rates, and boost overall throughput.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and parts usage to support planning and future troubleshooting.
- Monitor machine condition and performance trends to spot potential issues early, coordinating with supervisors to schedule interventions with minimal production disruption.
- Enforce and follow all safety protocols during maintenance work, including lockout/tagout, permits, and safe handling of tools and hazardous materials.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum of six years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing plant environment, with a demonstrated record of diagnosing and repairing industrial equipment.
- A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification.
- A certificate in air conditioning, refrigeration, or a closely related field, indicating practical knowledge of HVAC and cooling systems commonly used in plant utilities.
- Solid working knowledge of mechanical tools, materials, and maintenance techniques, including familiarity with bearings, drives, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting aptitude with the ability to identify problems quickly, think logically under pressure, and complete repairs correctly the first time.
- Detail-oriented mindset for precision installation and repair work, ensuring jobs meet specifications and quality standards.
- Effective time management skills to handle multiple maintenance requests, prioritize critical breakdowns, and finish tasks within planned schedules.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access for documenting work, reading manuals, and updating maintenance logs.
