Role Overview
This position sits within the finance operations team and is accountable for the accurate and timely reconciliation of financial activity across client portfolios. Day to day, you will run the daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation cycles, verify that cash movements match ledger entries, and chase down any mismatches before they become larger issues. Your work directly safeguards the business’s financial data, protects client funds, and gives management a clear, trustworthy picture of the company’s cash position.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute end-of-day, weekly, and monthly reconciliation routines for assigned portfolios, matching bank statements, internal ledgers, and transaction records without gaps.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies quickly, identify the underlying causes, and coordinate with operations, payments, and technology teams to clear mismatched entries.
- Build and maintain reconciliation dashboards and management reports using tools like Power BI to track progress, spot trends, and highlight recurring problem areas for leadership.
- Monitor accounts for unusual or high-risk activity, escalate significant anomalies, and work with risk and compliance teams to prevent similar issues from recurring.
- Support internal and external audits by testing reconciliation controls, reviewing process adherence, and documenting any weaknesses found during the checks.
- Track and manage exceptions to resolution, including long-outstanding items, disputed transactions, and high-value entries that need extra scrutiny.
- Act as the main escalation point for complex or high-impact reconciliation queries, ensuring that all stakeholders receive clear answers and follow-up within agreed deadlines.
- Collaborate with the technology team to automate repetitive reconciliation steps, refine workflows, and introduce better controls that reduce manual effort and human error.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least three years of experience in accounting or financial operations, including two to three years dedicated specifically to reconciliation activities within a financial institution, ideally a bank.
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of digital payment services, cross-border payments, foreign exchange, and managing multiple currencies across different jurisdictions.
- Working knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements that affect financial transactions, particularly around monitoring and reporting exceptions.
- Proficiency with reconciliation systems, spreadsheet tools, and analytics platforms—experience with Power BI is a plus.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving ability, with the skill to interpret complex financial data and turn it into practical recommendations.
- Good communication skills for explaining reconciliation findings to finance and non-finance stakeholders alike, and for training others on standard procedures.
- Previous experience in financial services, payments, or fintech is highly desirable.
