Role Overview
This position serves as an independent quality watchdog on a contract worksite, making sure every piece of work delivered meets the exact requirements written into the agreement. Day to day, you will observe active operations, inspect finished and in-progress tasks, document findings, and escalate issues through the Quality Manager rather than the project management chain. Your oversight directly protects the contractor from compliance failures, rework, and contractual disputes while keeping the customer confident in the final product.
Key Responsibilities
- Enforce the contractor’s Quality Management System across all phases of daily work, verifying that every activity aligns with contract specifications, industry standards, and internal policies.
- Conduct routine and ad hoc audits and inspections during normal government working hours, evaluating both the process and the finished output for conformance.
- Maintain a clear separation from the Project Manager, reporting findings and quality concerns directly to the Quality Manager to preserve objectivity.
- Review completed work against technical drawings, specifications, and regulatory requirements, documenting any deviations or deficiencies immediately.
- Keep precise inspection logs, audit trails, and corrective action records, then prepare summary reports for management review.
- Verify that inspectors assigned to specific tasks hold the appropriate technical expertise for the work they are reviewing, flagging gaps in knowledge or training.
- Partner with field personnel to identify the root cause of nonconformities, propose practical corrective actions, and track follow-through to prevent repeat issues.
- Participate in ongoing quality training and stay current on updated QMS procedures, safety protocols, and best practices relevant to the project scope.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; a technical degree, trade certification, or formal QA/QC credential is strongly preferred.
- At least three years of hands-on experience enforcing Quality Management Systems on projects comparable in size, complexity, and regulatory environment to this one.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and inspection qualifications that meet or exceed the skill level of the workers whose output you are reviewing.
- Solid working knowledge of quality assurance methods, inspection techniques, documentation control, and compliance frameworks.
- Strong organizational habits with the ability to manage multiple inspection records, audit schedules, and corrective action files without losing accuracy.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for producing detailed reports, briefing the Quality Manager, and giving practical feedback to crews.
- Ability to pass the contract’s medical examination and remain medically compliant for the full duration of the assignment.
