It is the successor of Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT), a constituent college … Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) was established under the University’s Act 2012 by the Government of Kenya in December 2012. It is a Public University that focuses exclusively on Technology. It is the successor of Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT), a constituent college if Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), that was established in 2007. The University offers a wide range of programmes both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in various Schools and Institutes. These include:Computer Science and Information Technology, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Food Science and Technology, Health Science, Business Management and Economics, Geothermal Energy Technology, Geomatics, Geospatial Information Systems and Remote Sensing, Tourism and Hospitality and Technical and Professional Studies. The University also offers diploma and Certificate courses for mid-level technical skills. The programmes offered by the University are approved by the Senate and the various designated bodies like Engineers Board of Kenya (CBK) and Commission for University Education (CUE) that was established by the government of Kenya through the Commission for University Education Act, 2010. DeKUT recognises research as a pillar of both institutional and national development and its strategic focus is to provide technological education and create unique structures for research,innovations, extension and technology transfer. Thus, Research and Innovation, Linkages and Technology transfer are key result areas in the University’s Strategic plan for 2014-2019. DeKUT is already implementing an ambitious physical facilities development programme to support the realization of her Vision and Mission. The University has in place a magnificent Resource Centre,which is a multi-purpose facility whose two phases are complete now. It comprises of Lecture theatres, a Library, Laboratories and offices for both administrative and academic staff. In line with her vision of being a Premier Technological University excelling in Quality Education, Research and Technology transfer, DeKUT has put up expansive and well equipped Engineering workshops and supporting Physics and Chemistry laboratories. DeKUT intends to establish a Science and Technology Park as per the Ministry of Education’s Master Plan for Science and Technology Parks in Kenya, the second of the kind will be established at Konza City. Job Description

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) is a public university in Nyeri, Kenya, focused on technology-led education and innovation. In line with its mission to develop the next generation of academics and researchers, DeKUT invites applications from qualified Kenyan graduates for the M.Sc. Computer Science Graduate Assistantship scholarship programme.

Successful candidates will pursue a Master of Science in Computer Science while serving as Graduate Assistants within the University. This is a unique opportunity to combine postgraduate study with hands-on academic and research experience in a dynamic university environment. Upon successful completion of the M.Sc. programme, candidates will be expected to transition into DeKUT’s Ph.D. scholarship pathway under the applicable terms and conditions.

Preferred candidates will demonstrate strong academic achievement, a commitment to research, and a passion for supporting teaching and learning in computer science.

Requirements

  • Kenyan citizen under the age of 30 years at the time of application
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field from a recognized and accredited university
  • Minimum of Second-Class Honors (Upper Division) in the relevant degree
  • Must be registered or registrable with relevant professional and/or regulatory bodies where applicable
  • Willingness to transition to a Ph.D. programme under the scholarship after successful completion of the M.Sc.
  • Ability to be bonded under the applicable terms and conditions of Dedan Kimathi University of Technology
  • Commitment to complete the M.Sc. programme within the prescribed study period

Responsibilities

  • Support teaching, tutorials, laboratory sessions, and assessment activities within the Computer Science department
  • Participate in research, scholarly activities, and innovation projects under the supervision of faculty members
  • Provide academic support and guidance to undergraduate students
  • Assist with grading, student consultations, and departmental academic duties as assigned
  • Contribute to seminars, workshops, and other academic initiatives within the University
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress in the M.Sc. programme and complete studies within the prescribed duration
  • Uphold the values, policies, and professional standards of Dedan Kimathi University of Technology

Compensation: Full tuition scholarship with graduate assistant stipend in line with DeKUT scholarship programme terms and conditions.
